Neanderthals, the original ‘cave men’, went extinct some 40,000 years ago. However, modern humans do have some of the early human’s DNA. In a conversation with Daily Mail, genetic engineer Sebnem Unluisler shared some signs that indicate someone having Neanderthal DNA.

Early Riser

The early bird gets the worm, and reportedly shares DNA with the close ancestors of the modern humans.

Thick Hair

As per the genetic engineer, people with Neanderthal DNA ‘may have slightly thicker or straighter hair’. “Studies have also shown a higher frequency of a genetic variant associated with red hair being present in Neanderthals,” he added.

Big Nose

Longer noses, which as per researchers helped Neanderthals adapt to colder air outside Africa has been passed on to their descendants.

Smokers

Even though tobacco was not a thing when Neanderthals were alive, their DNA comes with a significant increase in risk of nicotine addiction.

White As A Ghost

Those with Neanderthal DNA may also struggle to get a suntan.

Covid-19

Finally, modern humans with Neanderthal DNA were found to be more susceptible to COVID-19, and their cases turned more severe as did the suffering.
