The UN declared June 24 as the International Day of Women in Diplomacy to promote the participation of women in all levels of decision-making in global diplomacy in 2022.

History

The decision was taken to bring to light the crucial role women have played in the UN since the drafting and signing of the UN Charter in 1945 and recognise their contribution to international relations and global peace.

First World Conference on Women

Mexico hosted the first World Conference on Women. The key role of women in Mexico's foreign policy has enabled to strengthening of international governance by promoting gender equality and the human rights of women.

Significance

Generation Equality Forum was promoted by Mexico and France in 2021 to establish feminist leadership as a key principle in the 2030 Agenda.

Impact

Women's involvement in diplomacy and governance leads to better policies, enhanced effectiveness and inclusive decision-making.
