An Indian single malt whiskey, named Godawan Century, has claimed the top score at the 2024 London Spirits Competition in the single malt whiskey category.
The London Spirit Competition described the drink as, “A single malt whiskey with pronounced tropical notes, a lighter palate, and a short finish. It offers a very sweet palate with hints of caramel, charcoal, cinnamon, and anise, leading to a long dry finish.”
The competition showcased the world’s finest spirits and awarded them for their quality, value and package.
India’s Godawan, which scored an impressive score of 96 at the contest, is carefully crafted by Diageo India.
It draws inspiration from its provenance and embraces the Rajasthani ethos of revering beauty in scarcity while achieving sustainability.
“The arid climatic conditions observed in Godawan contribute to a heightened ‘Angel’s share’ phenomenon, imparting an extraordinary flavour profile that enthrals the sense,” LSC said.
It pays homage to the Great Indian Bustard, famously known as Godawan, which is now on the verge of extinction with only a little over a hundred in number left.
