The Haikyu manga series may have concluded years ago, but its fandom is still crazy about its favourite Shonen sports anime. The popular series made millions fall in love with volleyball.

Because of the Paris Olympics, which mirrored the Olympic match between Japan and Argentina shown in the manga, Haikyu has recently attracted eyes once more.

You read it right! On Wednesday (July 31), the 2024 Olympics launched a new round of men’s volleyball, with Japan going up against Argentina, the teams of Haikyu characters Kageyama and Oikawa respectively.

If you remember, Haikyu hinted at this matchup in chapter 402, where Argentina challenged Hinata’s national team.

In the manga, Mangaka Haruichi Furudate pitted Japan against Argentina during the Tokyo Olympics. This match has come to life in 2024, thanks to the Paris Olympics.

The match featured some legendary Haikyu moves, including the setter dump, and an anime soundtrack was played. The crowd enjoyed a performance of “To Be Fly”, the Haikyu opening theme.
