Deadliest Plane Crashes in History

In light of the recently deadly plane crash in Nepal's Kathmandu, here are some of the deadliest aircraft accidents and incidents in history:

 

Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 (2014)  

Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, travelling from Amsterdam, Netherlands to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia was shot down by a Buk missile reportedly fired from a pro-Russian separatist territory, killing 298 passengers and crew on board. The incident heightened tensions between Russia and the affected countries.

Garuda Indonesia Flight 152 (1997)  

This flight, travelling from the Indonesian capital Jakarta to the city of Medan, crashed into a mountain near Polonia International Airport on September 26, 1997. All 234 people on board were killed.

United Airlines Flight 232 (1989)  

United Airlines Flight 232, a McDonnell Douglas DC-10, crashed in Sioux City, Iowa, on July 19, 1989, following a mechanical failure that destroyed its control systems, killing 112 people on board.

Air India Flight 182 (1985)  

Air India Flight 182, flying from Montreal, Canada to London, United Kingdom via Toronto and Dublin, Ireland was destroyed by a bomb, killing all 329 passengers and crew on board the aircraft.
