Arvind Kejriwal is an Indian politician and the current Chief Minister of Delhi. Born on August 16, 1968, in Siwani, Haryana, he graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He cracked the IIT-JEE exam with an AIR of 563.
Kejriwal's entry into politics began with his involvement in grassroots activism and social work. He co-founded (NGO) Parivartan in 1999, focusing on addressing corruption and empowering citizens through initiatives like Right to Information (RTI) campaigns.
In 2012, Arvind Kejriwal formed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) with the aim to combat corruption and bring about political change. The AAP made a significant impact in the 2013 Delhi Assembly elections.
Kejriwal resigned in 2014 due to the failure of the Delhi government to pass the Jan Lokpal Bill, an anti-corruption legislation that was a key promise of the AAP during the election campaign. However, he later apologised for resigning and sought a fresh mandate from the people of Delhi, leading to the AAP's landslide victory in the 2015 Delhi elections.
As Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal has implemented various policies focussed on improving the lives of Delhi residents. His government introduced initiatives such as mohalla clinics (neighbourhood clinics), improvements in government schools, providing free water and electricity subsidies, and implementing odd-even road rationing schemes to address air pollution.
