As per the Red Panda Network, in 1825, nearly 50 years before the giant panda was found, French zoologist Frederic Cuvier first discovered the red panda and described it as the most beautiful animal he had ever seen.
Red pandas eat bamboo equalling 20 to 30% of their body weight and can eat up to 20,000 bamboo leaves a day. Though it’s not very nutritional but is convenient for them as there is no competition and is easily available.
It’s just not us humans who have multiple names, even red pandas have many names: Firefox, red bear-cat, red cat-bear and even lesser panda
You won’t believe but red pandas sleep for almost two-thirds of the day. They have been identified as both nocturnal and crepuscular (active during twilight hours).
The white-coloured part on the red panda’s face is almost ‘luminescent’ and a mother can guide her lost cubs in the dark.
