Global Bicycle Cities Index 2022

The study is conducted by Luko, a digital insurance company which analysed 90 cities across the globe based on various indicators.

 These indicators are grouped into six categories: weather, bicycle usage, crime & safety, infrastructure, bike sharing opportunities and awareness events such as 'No Car Day.'

Utrecht, Netherlands

The Dutch city of Utrecht has been named the world's most bicycle-friendly city in this report. It scored a total of 77.84 out of 100 in all six indicators combined.

Munster, Germany

The German city of Munster ranked second in this index with a score of 65.93 out of 100. It ranked number 1 in the safety score index with a score of 88.43.

Antwerp, Belgium

The largest city in Belgium, Antwerp is the third-best city for bicycle lovers. It scored 60.51 out of 100 in all six indicators.

Copenhagen, Denmark

The capital city of Denmark, Copenhagen ranked fourth in the Global Bicycle Cities Index 2022 with a score of 60.46. 29 per cent of the city's population use a bicycle as an everyday mode of transport.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

The capital city of the Netherlands, Amsterdam is fifth in this index with an overall score of 60. 24.32 per cent of the city's population use a bicycle as an everyday mode of transport.

Malmo, Sweden

The coastal city in southern Sweden is the sixth-best city for cycling. It scored 55.88 out of 100 on all six indicators.

Hangzhou, China

Hangzhou is the only Asian city in the top 10 of the Global Bicycle Cities Index 2022, with a score of 52.55 out of 100. 30 per cent of the city's population use bicycles as an everyday mode of transport.
