6 'Youngest Nations' in the World

Borders moved and new nations were founded and some old ones resurfaced. Here is the list of such seven youngest nations, based on their year of independence.

Young Nations

Year of Independence: 2011 The country gained independence from Sudan in 2011 after years of civil war, which continues.

South Sudan

Year of Independence: 2008 The smallest Balkan nation gained independence on 17 February 2008 after declaring independence from Serbia.

Kosovo

Year of Independence: 2006 The country gained independence from Serbia in 2006. The single nation of Serbia was split into the Union of Serbia and Montenegro.

Montenegro

Year of Independence: 2006 The mountainous Balkan nation consequently also declared independence and became its own sovereign republic in the same year.

Serbia

Year of Independence: 2002 Once part of Indonesia, East Timor gained its statehood in 2002.

East Timor

Year of Independence: 1994 The territory gained independence in 1994, but under a Compact of Free Association, the United States provides its financial aid.

Palau
