6 Secret Societies That Remain Shrouded In Mystery

The Knights Templar

The Knights Templar were warriors dedicated to protecting Christian pilgrims to the Holy Land during the Crusades. Popular books and films like The Da Vinci Code have continued to inspire curiosity about the Knights Templar.

The Freemasons

The Freemasons loom large in American history, as 13 of the 39 men who signed the US Constitution were Masons. Founding Fathers like George Washington, James Monroe, Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock and Paul Revere all counted themselves as members of the fraternal order.

The Illuminati

The Illuminati was founded in Bavaria on May 1, 1776 by professor Adam Weishaupt, who believed “the monarchy and the church were repressing freedom of thought”.  The society grew from a handful of men to a few thousand, including some influential members.

Skull and Bones

In addition to protecting heart health, regularly consuming oranges and other citrus fruits may help reduce the risk of other health conditions, including certain types of cancer and diabetes.

 Bilderberg

The Bilderberg Meeting is an annual off-the-record forum established in 1954 to foster dialogue between Europe and North America. Its agenda, originally to prevent another world war, is now defined as bolstering consensus around free market Western capitalism. It is not strictly a secret society like the Illuminati or Freemasons.
