When you think Samsung, you think phones or maybe televisions. However, before these products, the brand made something else. Here are some famous brands and the unlikely, and frankly surprising, products they made first.

Samsung

The company was started in 1983 by Lee Byung-chul in South Korea, and initially, its products were dried fish and preserved fruit.

Nokia

The now-famous mobile brand sowed its roots in Finland in 1865 when it produced paper and manufactured toilet paper.

Sony

Initially called Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation, the company was founded in 1946 by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita. They initially started manufacturing electric rice cookers.

Colgate

Now synonymous with dental hygiene products, Colgate started in 1806 as a soap and candle business in New York City.

Tiffany

The popular luxury jewellery store at first was a stationary brand. It was co-founded by Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young in 1837 in New York City.

LG

Originally known as Lucky Goldstar, the company was founded in 1947 in South Korea and its first product was face cream.
