Every year on July 26, India celebrates the victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War of 1999. This year India is commemorating its 24 years of victory in the Kargil War.

1. Kargil War is considered one of the most challenging wars of all time, with some posts situated at over 18,000ft. 

2. The war led to the martyrdom of over 500 Indian Army Soldiers. Bombs, rockets, guns, artillery shells, and mortar bombs were used in high numbers.

3. During the war, the Indian Air Force played a vital role in carrying out air strikes and provided aerial support to knock out enemies at key locations. The campaign to recapture the seized areas of Kargil was named Operation Vijay.

4. Kargil War was the first war to be telecast on Indian television. Indian citizens were able to get live updates about the war.

5. During the war, Israel helped India by providing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAE). It was one of the countries that helped India directly.

6. Several Indian soldiers were awarded prestigious awards for showing extraordinary bravery during the war. A monument named Kargil War Memorial has also been built in the town of Dras, near Kargil city to mark the victory of the Indian Army.
