Six Asian cricketing giants will square off in Asia Cup 2023, starting August 30. Here are the top five records held by India in the tournament’s history.
India has had a strong presence in the ODI trophy since their first win in 1984. They continued their success with back-to-back titles in 1988, 1990, and 1995. By 2010, they solidified their dominance by securing their fifth ODI trophy in Sri Lanka.
India has 16 individual ODI centuries in the tournament. Virat Kohli has three centuries in the continental cricket competition.
In the T20 format of the tournament, India’s score of 212/2 against Afghanistan is the highest total.
The 2012 match against India’s arch-rivals Pakistan in Mirpur is still remembered for the impressive run-chase. Facing a huge target of 330, a young Virat Kohli stepped up to the challenge and scored an incredible 183.
India’s dominance in the T20I format in Asia Cup is unmatchable. The Men in Blue have won eight out of 10 matches in 2016 and 2022 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.
Some other records by Indian players include the most wicketkeeper dismissals (36 by MS Dhoni in 19 matches) and most catches in a series (6 by Shikhar Dhawan in Asia Cup 2018).
