After multiple delays, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in December last year announced the detailed schedule of the general elections. Voters will cast their ballot on Februray 8 (Thursday) in single phase, across the country.
Section 98 of the Elections Act requires the ECP to publish official results within 14 days of the election. For the elections on February 8, this means official results should be announced by Thursday, February 22.
The canvassing trail for all candidates will expire on Tuesday (Februray 6) at midnight. As the deadline lapses, all the hustings will fall silent.
The ECP has declared the period following February 6 and 7 as a pre-poll silence period, strictly prohibiting campaigning activities like rallies, public meetings, and media appearances.
Some of the political parties in fray are: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf, Pakistan People’s Party, Awami National Party, Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan, Jamaat-e-Islami and Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam.
