Food tastes bland to astronauts who are on a mission in space. But do you know why? Let’s find out!

Researchers from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in Australia discovered that the feeling of loneliness or isolation can affect the astronauts’ ability to smell and taste.

They observed that despite having their meal plans designed carefully, astronauts are not able to meet their nutritional needs and reported that their food tasted bland.

Previous research also found that due to the absence of gravity in space bodily fluids shift from lower to upper parts of the body.

This shift also leads to facial swelling and nasal congestion, which affects the sense of smell and taste of the astronauts orbiting in the space station.
