Russia’s Luna-25 Moon Lander Sends 1st Pictures From Space

The Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKI RAS) released the first images clicked and sent by its lunar mission Luna-25.

The collection of black and white pictures shows the mission patch on the spacecraft’s structure and the Russian flag alongside Earth and the Moon shining bright.

According to IKI RAS, the images were taken at a distance of about 192,625 miles (310,000 km) from Earth.

IKI RAS stated, “All systems of the spacecraft are operating normally, communication with the station is stable, and the energy balance is positive.”

Luna-25, which took off on August 10, 2023, aims to study the composition of the polar regolith and the plasma and dust components of the lunar polar exosphere.

Luna-25 is expected to land on the moon’s south pole on 23 August.
