Space has mysterious phenomena that leave us puzzled. There are also various misconceptions about space which a lot of people believe in. Here are 7 debunked misconceptions:

Saturn is the only planet with rings

While most people are aware that Saturn is known for its rings, it is not the only one with rings in the solar system. Jupiter, Uranus, and Neptune also have rings, which was confirmed by spacecraft Voyager in the 1970s and 1980s.

Moon has a dark side

There is a popular belief that the moon's opposite side never gets sunlight. However, this is not true. We only see one side of the moon because the earth is rotating as the moon orbits.

The Sun is yellow

The Sun appears yellow from our planet but it is not actually yellow. The Sun's true colour is white but appears yellow due to the Rayleigh scattering effect, which is the bending of light in the Earth’s atmosphere due to gases.

Stars in constellations are close

The stars in constellations seem close to each other from Earth, however, they are actually hundreds of light years away from each other.

Sun is on fire

While it appears as if the sun is on fire, it is actually nuclear fusion occurring in its core. The Sun is made up of gas and emits energy as light and heat.

Comet tails indicate their path

While it appears that comets have tails pointing in the opposite direction they are headed, there is no air in the space to leave a trail. Their tails are due to the radiation and solar winds and always point away from the sun.

Black holes are vacuums

Black holes become active if a star gets too close. Objects far enough from it or moving at high speeds would not be pulled into a black hole.
