This image of the moon, taken by Lunar Orbiter 2 on November 24, 1966, shows the central peaks of the Copernicus crater, which is about 100 km in diameter.
This photograph taken during the Apollo 11 mission shows astronaut Edwin ‘Buzz’ Aldrin beside the US flag on the surface of the moon. Aldrin was accompanied by Neil Armstrong, who became the first person to walk on the moon’s surface.
This image of a total solar eclipse was taken in August 2017. It shows the Sun’s corona, the white flares from the surface along with the red spots called Bailey’s beads.
The image shows a full moon against black space over Earth’s horizon. It was captured by an astronaut in Space Shuttle Discovery’s cabin. The top of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) is also visible in the image.
This composite image of the full moon was captured using the 1994 data from Clementine, the first US spacecraft that was launched to the moon.
Captured by NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) in May 2019, the image shows wrinkle ridges discovered in the Mare Frigoris region of the moon, giving evidence that the Moon’s surface is actively changing.
