Nations that have banned TikTok so far

INDIA

India has banned TikTok among hundreds of Chinese apps. New Delhi in 2020 said banning TikTok was necessary to protect the sovereignty of India.

United States

US banned TikTok from government devices last December. US might completely ban TikTok unless its Chinese owners disinvest.

Canada

Ottawa banned TikTok from govt devices in February. Canada said the app posed a significant risk to privacy and security.

Belgium

Belgium banned TikTok from govt devices in March 2023 citing worries about cybersecurity, privacy, and misinformation.

Denmark

Denmark also announced a ban on the use of TikTok on official units. The government said it was a cyber security measure.

Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan temporarily banned TikTok in September 2022. The country said TikTok was influencing its military’s decisions. The ban was lifted in November 2022.

European Union

EU banned TikTok in staff devices in February this year. The bloc cited cyber security concerns for taking the action.

Taiwan

Taiwan banned TikTok in December last year. Apart from India, Taiwan is the only country to publicly ban the app to evade Chinese espionage.

UK

UK has become the latest country to ban TikTok from govt devices. UK said the decision was taken following a review by Britain’s cybersecurity experts

New Zealand

New Zealand also scrubbed TikTok off the country's official network in March 2023. Civil servants and ministers won't use the app anymore due to cybersecurity concerns.
