Cholesterol is a fatty substance produced in our liver. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), having extra low-density lipoprotein (LDL), also called “bad cholesterol”, can put a person at risk of several health conditions.
The 2018 guidelines on the management of blood cholesterol published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC) recommends total cholesterol levels under 200 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) for adults.
A few lifestyle changes you can make to achieve healthy cholesterol
At least 150 minutes of high-intensity workout in your weekly routine is advisable.
Include more fibre in your diet. Research indicates that fibre-rich diets lower cholesterol levels and also support heart health.
Limit smoking and alcohol intake. High alcohol intake increases LDL (bad cholesterol), resulting in the development of severe diseases.
Saturated fats may raise bad cholesterol levels, so avoid food items containing saturated fats.
