Anchovies are a good source of omega-3 fatty acids and they support heart health and reduce inflammation.

Energy Production and Metabolism

Vitamin B12 is essential for converting food into glucose, which is used for energy production. A deficiency can lead to fatigue, low energy, and weakness, which can be more common in women with higher energy demands or restrictive diets.

Anaemia Prevention

Without adequate B12, red blood cells can become abnormally large and ineffective, leading to anaemia. Symptoms include weakness, palpitations and shortness of breath, which can be particularly problematic during menstruation or pregnancy.

Pregnancy and Fetal Development

During pregnancy, Vitamin B12 is crucial for properly developing the fetus’s brain and nervous system. A deficiency of B12 in pregnant women can increase the risk of complications such as preterm birth and low birth weight.

Bone Health

Adequate levels of Vitamin B12 are associated with better bone health. Low B12 levels are linked to reduced bone mineral density, increasing the risk of osteoporosis, especially in postmenopausal women.

Menstrual Health

Some studies suggest that vitamin B12 may help alleviate symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) by regulating mood and energy levels. It also supports the production of RBCs, which is essential during menstruation when women lose blood.

Skin, Hair, and Nail Health

B12 contributes to skin, hair, and nails health by supporting cell production and repair. A deficiency can result in skin hyperpigmentation, vitiligo, hair thinning and brittle nails.
