Despite the benefits, intermittent fasting has risks and side effects. The most common side effects are hunger, headaches, and frequent mood swings. 

The Greater Risks

One of the greatest risks associated with intermittent fasting is malnutrition. This method of eating might be dangerous for people suffering from certain conditions such as diabetes. According to Harvard Medical School, some people who take medications for blood pressure or heart disease also may be more prone to imbalances of sodium, potassium, and other minerals during longer-than-normal periods of fasting.
