Your daily calorie intake, degree of activity, and other variables may affect how much sugar is safe to consume.
Since sugar contains no health benefits, it is advised to avoid it as much as possible. Eating excess sugar can result in health complications as well.
The American Heart Association (AHA) has recommended a set amount of sugar a person can ideally consume in a day:
Men: 150 calories (37.5 grams or 9 teaspoons) per day
Women: 100 calories (25 grams or 6 teaspoons) per day
The dietary guidelines in the US suggest that sugar consumption should be less than 10% of daily calorie intake.
Added sugars are not good for your health. It is best to avoid it as much as possible. You can switch to healthier alternatives for sweetness, like honey, jaggery, etc.
