In Ayurveda, the timing and manner of consuming dairy products, particularly milk, are given special attention to ensure proper digestion and assimilation of nutrients. Here are some general guidelines according to Ayurvedic principles.

Morning

Consuming milk in the morning can be beneficial, especially for children and those who need nourishment. It provides energy and sustenance to start the day.

Evening

Drinking milk in the evening or at night is often recommended in Ayurveda. It can help induce sleep and has a calming effect on the nervous system, making it beneficial for those who experience insomnia or stress.

Warm Milk

Milk should ideally be consumed warm or at room temperature. Cold milk can be difficult to digest and may lead to mucus formation.

Spices and Additives

Adding spices like turmeric, cardamom, ginger, or nutmeg can enhance the digestibility of milk. These spices have their own health benefits and help balance the doshas.

Avoid Mixing with Certain Foods

Milk should not be combined with incompatible foods, such as sour fruits, fish, meat, and certain vegetables. Such combinations can disturb the digestive process and create toxins (ama) in the body.

Empty Stomach

Drinking milk on an empty stomach, especially in the morning, can be beneficial for its quick absorption and nourishment.
