Beetroot is loaded with various essential nutrients. They are often called a superfood for their rich contents including essential vitamins, minerals and plant compounds.

Beets have a high concentration of nitrates, a compound that can help lower blood pressure. They are often used in medication to treat cardiovascular illnesses.

Studies have shown that beetroot juice can be beneficial for lowering both systolic blood pressure, when the heart contracts, and diastolic blood pressure, when the heart is relaxed.

The dietary nitrates in the body are converted into nitric oxide, which dilates the blood vessels and lowers blood pressure.

Beets are also rich in folate which may help lower the blood pressure levels in the body significantly and reduce the risk of heart diseases and stroke.

However, beets only affect the blood pressure temporarily. It is recommended to eat them regularly for a long time to benefit heart health.
