Food and its combinations play a major role in Ayurveda, an ancient Indian system of medicine. According to Ayurvedic principles, certain food pairings might disturb the digestive system and result in a variety of health issues. Check out these five food combos that Ayurveda suggests you avoid.

Milk and Fruits

Acidic fruits such as pineapple, oranges or strawberries, when mixed with milk, might upset the stomach. The acidic nature of the fruits may cause milk to curdle, which can result in discomfort and bloating.

Fish with Dairy

Combining fish with dairy products is discouraged in Ayurveda due to the conflicting properties of these foods. Dairy is cooling and fish is hot, and consuming both at once might throw off the body's equilibrium. Instead, you should eat fish with veggies or grains.

Honey and Hot Beverages

In Ayurveda, it is considered hazardous to heat honey. When honey is added to hot liquids, such as tea or coffee, it can turn toxic and cause the body to develop ama (toxins), which can impair digestion and cause other health issues.

Beans and Cheese

Both beans and cheese are heavy and hard to digest. Eating them together may put too much strain on the digestive tract, leading to bloating, gas and indigestion.

Melons and Other Foods

Melons, including watermelons, cantaloupes and muskmelons, should not be mixed with any other foods. Melons digest fast and can result in fermentation and gas when consumed with slower-digesting meals. Thus, combining them with other foods can upset your digestive system.
