The first thing that comes to mind when we talk about healthy food is salads. There is no debate on the fact that salads are a good source of vital nutrients for the body. However, if not prepared properly salads can lead to quite a few health risks.

1. There is a high risk of contamination from bacteria such as Listeria, Salmonella, etc. that are present in vegetables and fruits. Thus, it is very important to wash your fruits and vegetables well before preparing salads.

2. Storing tomatoes, greens, peppers, etc. at room temperature can multiply bacteria. To avoid getting sick, refrigerate your vegetables before picking them up to prepare the salad.

3. If you purchase salads that are already packed and ready to eat, you are exposing yourself to an array of health risks since you can't be sure whether the vegetables were washed properly, packed hygienically, etc.

4. If you like to add store-bought dressings to your salads, then checking the expiration date is a must. On the other hand, if you like to prepare your dressing from scratch, then you must ensure that the ingredients used are safe to consume and free from bacteria.
