5 Easy Steps to Make Dal Pitha at Home

A tasty traditional meal from the Indian subcontinent, Dal Pitha is especially well-liked in states like Bihar and Jharkhand. Check out these 5 simple steps to make this at home:

Prepare the Dough

In a bowl, combine rice flour with warm water and a pinch of salt. Knead until it forms a smooth dough. Cover it with a damp cloth and let it rest for about 15-20 minutes.

Make the Filling

Cook split lentils (like yellow moong or urad dal) until soft. Drain and mash them, then mix with sauteed onions, green chillies, ginger and spices like cumin and coriander.

Shape the Pitha

Take a small portion of the dough and flatten it into a disc. Place a spoonful of the lentil filling in the centre, fold the edges over, and seal tightly to form a dumpling. Repeat for the remaining dough and filling.

Steam

Arrange the filled dumplings in a steamer lined with banana leaves or a greased plate. Steam for about 15-20 minutes.

Serve

For a traditional Bihar touch, serve your Dal Pitha with coriander chutney.
