The Global Peace Index (GPI) for 2024, which ranks countries based on their levels of peacefulness, has identified the following seven countries as the most peaceful.
Portugal is recognized for its strong social bonds and high quality of life. It consistently ranks well in terms of safety and security.
Despite its high military expenditures per capita, Switzerland is known for its stability, wealth, and high levels of safety and security, contributing to its peacefulness.
Singapore is recognized for its low crime rate, robust law enforcement, and efficient governance, making it one of the most peaceful countries in the world.
New Zealand is the most peaceful country in the Asia-Pacific region, known for its harmonious multicultural society and high levels of safety and security.
Austria maintains its high ranking due to its low levels of violence and strong social cohesion. Its robust education and welfare systems are also key factors.
Ireland's peacefulness is supported by its low levels of violence, strong social cohesion, and robust education system.
Iceland remains the most peaceful country in the world, a position it has held since 2008. Its strong societal cohesion, low crime rate, and excellent welfare and education systems contribute to its top ranking.
India ranked 116 on the list out of 163 countries. The ranking improved as compared to last year when India was ranked 121 on the list.
