Before attempting to drive through a flooded area, carefully assess the depth and flow of the water. If the water appears to be more than a few inches deep or is moving rapidly, it’s best to find an alternative route.
If you must drive through a flooded area, do so at a slow, steady pace. Avoid sudden acceleration or braking, as this can cause you to lose control of the vehicle.
Be on the lookout for hidden hazards, such as potholes, debris or even washed-out roads, that may be obscured by the floodwater.
Consider turning off your air conditioning and avoid rolling down your windows to prevent water from entering the cabin.
If the water is too deep to step out, consider rolling down the windows or opening the doors. This will equalise the pressure and make it easier to open the doors. Exit through the window, if necessary.
