States That Have Declared 'Dry Day' On Ram Mandir Inauguration Day

As India readies for the inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, some states have declared consecration day — Jan 22 as 'dry day.'

What is a Dry Day?

Dry Day refers to a day on which liquor can't be sold or purchased. This includes its sale in bars, pubs, and liquor shops.

Chhattisgarh

Chhattisgarh is the first Indian state to ban alcohol on the inauguration day of the temple. Chief Minister Vishnu Dev announcing the decision said that Jan 22 will be dry day in the entire state.

Uttar Pradesh

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed authorities in Uttar Pradesh to ban alcohol on the day of 'Pran Pratishtha,' emphasising that the day would be celebrated like a "national festival."

Assam

Announcing the decision, Assam Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah announced, "To commemorate the inauguration of Ram temple, the Assam government has decided to declare January 22 as a dry day."
