Donning casual attire, Prime Minister Modi is also pictured petting the cows, and in another shot, he is holding a tuft of grass around them.
According to Hindu tradition, feeding grass to cows on Makar Sankranti is believed to bring abundant blessings.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi participated in a cultural event organised at the residence of Union Minister L Murugan to celebrate Pongal.
During the event, he extended Pongal greetings to all citizens and said the festival depicts the emotion of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’.
