Even though the chances of Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai to reclaim the top post are bleak, and he has conceded defeat, the chief minister was leading comfortable by nearly 36,000 votes against Congress candidate Pathan Yasir Ahmed Khan from his constituency.
Congress is leading in majority of seats in Karnataka assembly elections. Yathindra, son of former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that his father should become the CM in ‘best interest of Karnataka’.
Along with former Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, another candidate in the race to become the next chief minister of the state is Karnataka Pradesh Congress chief DK Shivakumar.
JDS has won 22 seats in the elections. Party leader Kumaraswamy said he is ready to hold talks with both Congress and BJP to discuss forming an alliance.
Contesting from Davanagere South Assembly constituency, the 92-year-old Congress candidate Shamanur Shivashankarappa is the oldest to contest in the Karnataka elections 2023.
According to the election body, Karnataka has the highest-ever number of voters who are over 100 years of age. The data suggests about 17,000 people registered in the electoral rolls have already crossed the age of 100 years. 9,985 of them are women.
