Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off Kochi Water Metro on 25 April. It has a capacity of carrying over one lakh passengers. The Metro is equipped with latest tech with safety mechanism in place.
In the water metro, each boat is capable of ferrying 50 to 100 passengers. Boats depart every 15 minutes. The cost of the project is Rs 1,137 crore.
The ticket rate starts from only 20 rupees and it goes up to Rs 40. There is also a facility for a weekly and monthly pass for those who hail it regularly. It starts from Rs 180.
The Kochi metro will include an automatic fare collection system that integrates the rail and water metros. Using a Kochi One Card, one may use the rail and water metro systems in Kochi. Through the Kochi One App, you can also purchase the tickets online.
Lithium Titanite Spinel batteries will power the water metro, making it environmentally sustainable.
