Interim Budget 2024: Meet Nirmala Sitharaman's Team

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1 presented the interim Budget  2024 in the Indian Parliament. She is a Rajya Sabha MP from Karnataka and has previously served as the 28th Defence Minister from 2017 to 2019. Here's her team that put together the fiscal roadmap for India:

1. TV Somanathan

Finance Secretary TV Somanathan, a 1987 batch IAS officer, looks after the expenditure department. He played a vital role in implementing key government initiatives, including Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).

2. Ajay Seth

Ajay Seth, a 1987 batch IAS officer and Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs, led initiatives like India’s first sovereign green bond issuance.

3. Sanjay Malhotra

Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra, a 1990 batch officer, holds a pivotal role in the budget exercise by overseeing tax revenue growth.

4. V Anantha Nageswaran

Chief Economic Advisor to the Indian government, V Anantha Nageswaran is a key advisor to Sitharaman on economic issues. He recently represented India during the G20 Presidency's finance track discussions.

5. Vivek Joshi

Vivek Joshi, as financial services secretary and a board member of the RBI, focuses on the government’s reform agenda for state-run financial institutions.

6. Tuhin Kanta Pandey

Tuhin Kanta Pandey is tasked with determining the government's investment strategies. His previous success in selling Air India highlighted his role in financial planning and management.
