India's Longest-Serving Prime Ministers

With the Lok Sabha elections 2024 results almost out, Narendra Modi is on the threshold to begin his third tenure as the prime minister. He will now enter the list of leaders who have served as prime ministers for over 10 years.  Here's a list of some of the India's longest-serving prime ministers:

Jawaharlal Nehru (Congress)

 Jawaharlal Nehru was the first and longest-serving prime minister of India. He remained in power for 16 years from 1947 to 1964.

Indira Gandhi (Congress)

Indira Gandhi became India's first woman prime minister to serve for nearly 16 years across four terms. The Green Revolution and the Emergency (1975-1977) and the nationalisation of banks became the highlights of her tenure. 

Narendra Modi (BJP)

Narendra Modi, the incumbent prime minister of India who is likely to serve for a third consecutive term, came to power in 2014 and has served for 10 years till now. 

Manmohan Singh (Congress) 

Manmohan Singh also served as India's prime minister for 10 years from 2004-2014.
