Every year on January 9, the world celebrates Hindi Day to honour the contributions of Hindi speakers globally and to recognise the centuries-old beautiful language of Hindi.
In 1949, Hindi was spoken for the first time in the United Nations General Assembly. In 2006, the first Vishwa Hindi Diwas was observed by the then-Indian PM, Dr. Manmohan Singh. Since then, January 10 has been observed as World Hindi Day.
World Hindi Day is observed to promote the Hindi language and its rich literature around the world. It is more than just a language, as its literature holds years of history and heritage.
Hindi is an Indo-Aryan language spoken majorly in Northern India. It is the fourth most-spoken first language in the world, after Mandarin, Spanish and English.
Some Hindi-speaking countries around the world are- India, Bangladesh, Fiji, Singapore, Mauritius, Nepal, United Arab Emirates.
