Chandrayaan-3 will attempt to soft land on the moon's south pole on August 23 around 6:04 pm IST. The mission was launched on July 14.

Chandrayaan-3 consists of a lander, rover and propulsion module. It can’t travel to space on its own and needs to be attached to launch vehicles or rockets, like the LVM3 in this case.

The launch vehicle can carry up to 8 tonnes of payload to the lower earth orbit (LEO), which is about 200 km from the Earth's surface.
LVM3: Specifications
It is a three-stage launch vehicle, including two solid boosters (S200), the core liquid fuel-based stage (L110), and the cryogenic upper stage (C25).
ISRO renamed the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) Mark-III as Launch Vehicle Mark-III in October last year. It was done to identify its task of placing satellites into a variety of orbits.
LVM3 or GSLV Mk-III?
LVM3 made its debut in space in 2014 and then also carried Chandrayaan-2 in 2019.
LVM3's first flight
In March this year, it placed 36 OneWeb satellites, weighing 6,000 kg in LEO. This was the second time that LVM3 made a commercial launch. The first one came in October 2022 when it delivered the OneWeb India-1 mission.
