The BJP has never lost a Lok Sabha election from Bangalore South. The seat was previously held by senior late BJP leader Ananth Kumar.
Tejasvi Surya, who is also the president of the BJP youth wing, has been a serving member of parliament from Bengaluru South since 2019. Surya won from Bangalore South by over 3,31,000 votes in 2019. He has been named BJP candidate from Bangalore South again.
A former stronghold of veteran BJP politician Ram Naik, the BJP narrowly lost the constituency twice in recent history. First in 2004 when the actor Govinda defeated Naik and later in 2009 when Congress party's Sanjay Nirupam won by a narrow margin of about 6,000 votes.
BJP's Gopal Shetty won the seat in 2019 General Elections by winning over 70 per cent of the total votes polled and a winning margin of over 4,65,000 votes.
The BJP has given Union Minister Piyush Goyal a ticket to Lok Sabha from Mumbai North.
