RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav seldom misses to mention young daughter Rohini Acharya's 'great gesture' at public forums. Acharya donated one of her kidneys to an ailing Lalu Yadav in December 2022.
Rohini was born in 1979, two years after Prime Minister Indira Gandhi announced the end of state of Emergency. She was born to Lalu and wife Rabri in Hindu calendar's 'Rohini Nakshatra', and thus was named Rohini.
Speculations are rife and credible murmurs suggest Rohini would be an RJD candidate from Saran Lok Sabha constituency, once represented by her father Lalu Prasad himself.
Rohini was born under the care of Patna-based gynaecologist Dr Kamala Acharya. He refused to take fees from Lalu Prasad. Upon insistence, Dr Acharya asked if he could give her surname to Rohini. Lalu agreed. Her newborn came to be known as Rohini Acharya.
In 2002, Rohini's wedding ceremony with husband Samresh Singh became top source of controversy after it was alleged that some of Lalu supporters forcibly took out brand new cars from Patna showrooms to welcome the 'baraat' at city airport.
