The new COVID-19 sub variant, JN.1 was first detected in the United States and China in September this year. In India, it was first detected in Kerala earlier this month.

Since Sunday, Dec 17, six COVID-19-related deaths have been reported in the country- 4 in Kerala, 1 in Karnataka, and 1 in Uttar Pradesh. However, it is not confirmed if the deceased was infected by JN.1 or some other variant.
The signs of J.1 infection are similar to those of the mild flu and are associated with mild gastrointestinal symptoms, like- sore throat, runny nose, watering eyes, low-grade fever, diarrhoea, nausea and fatigue.
Social distancing is a must near people with coughs or colds and in large crowds. It is also advised to use hand sanitiser and face masks to prevent the infection from spreading.
Eat healthy, exercise for at least 30 minutes a day, and take vitamin D and vitamin C supplements as per your daily requirements. If you see any of the symptoms in yourself or your loved ones, consult a physician as soon as possible.
Health experts suggest that vaccinations targeting the spike protein should remain effective against the JN.1 variant.
