For the first time, the Indian Army will utilise Artificial Intelligence (AI) to adjudge marching contingents at the Army Day Parade 2024. AI-based tech will asses the drill performance of men in olive green.
The individual movement of every soldier while marching will be captured by a camera that will be then sent to the computer software. It will use AI to give marks for each and every movement. This will also be supervised by humans afterwards.
Army Day is celebrated on 15 January every year, in recognition of Lieutenant General KM Cariappa's taking over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Francis Roy Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India, on 15 January 1949.
The Army Day Parade 2024 will be conducted in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. This is the second time that such a parade will happen outside the capital city of Delhi. This will lead to greater visibility for these events and larger involvement of the local citizens, as per officials.
According to PTI, the parade this year will witness six marching contingents- 50 (I) PARA Brigade, Sikh Light Infantry Regimental Centre, Jat Regimental Centre, Garhwal Rifle Regimental Centre, Bengal Engineer Group Centre and Army Air Defence Centre.
