World Menstrual Hygiene is celebrated every year on 28 May. The day is observed to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene and fight the taboo and stigma surrounding menstruation. Check out 5 period hygiene tips you must follow!
Girls should change their pads or tampons every 2 hrs if the flow is heavy and every 4 hrs if the flow is less. Not doing so can lead to rashes, irritation or infections.
Before changing pads, make sure you clean your genital area with warm water and intimate wash. You can also use chemical-free wet wipes.
Make sure that you wash your hands before and after changing your pads. Don't handle pads with dirty hands.
You must wear proper undergarments to avoid getting rashes. Make sure that your underwear is made of cotton or any other breathable material.
Do not ignore any signs of infections or rash. If you notice any foul smell, coloured or excessive vaginal discharge, contact your healthcare professional or gynae for an appointment.
