Munawar has a five-year-old son with his ex-wife whom he divorced in 2022. He has been linked up with several social media influencers and the topic was a major discussion point in the Bigg Boss house.
Munawar, a celebrated stand-up comic is a Gujarat riots 2002 victim. His family fled from the riots and settled in Mumbai. He often uses anecdotes from his journey in his jokes, taking sly digs at the government and the state of Muslims in India.
Munawar got in trouble in 2021 when he made a joke that led to several people filing complaints against him for hurting religious sentiments. He ended up getting arrested and was jailed for a month. He made remarks on Hindu deities during a stand-up show.
After returning from jail, Munawar went into a low phase as 12 of his shows were cancelled within two months due to threats. This led to him being invited as a contestant on Kangana Ranaut’s show Lock Upp. The contestants were to live in a jail-like setup and perform tasks to earn money as inmates. He won the show's first season.
He was later invited to Bigg Boss season 17. He won the show with TV actor Abhishek Kumar announced as the runner-up.
