As American rapper Lizzo kicked off the second leg of The Special 2our, she made a powerful statement in support of drag kings and queens. Creating a safe space for drag artists, she slammed Tennessee's drag ban.
Empowering marginalised communities has always been at the centre of Lizzo's career. In 2022, she gave an empowering trans-inclusive People’s Choice speech.
Lizzo also slammed Texas' anti-trans policies at SXSW. She called out the controversial move for "unfairly targetting women and the LGBTQ community".
During a 2019 Pride concert in New York, she said, "Pride is not just a holiday. It’s a lifestyle. When I look outside and we see all the celebrations going on, I didn’t see this when I was growing up. This is progress. You should all be proud.”
The 31-year-old singer-songwriter’s fan base is known as "Lizzbians", however she doesn't "ascribe to just one thing" in terms of her sexuality.
In a 2019 interview with Variety magazine, Lizzo openly spoke about being a proud LGBTQ ally. “It’s called Pride, not hide,” she said.
In her album, Special, Lizzo’s song “Everybody’s Gay” is a celebratory anthem!
