While skin cancer can be cured if detected early, it is best to take precautions beforehand. Here are some steps you can take to avoid skin cancer
Seek the shade, especially between 10 AM and 4 PM. Avoid tanning and UV tanning booths.
If you have to step out in harsh sunlight, wear dark colours and cover your arms and legs as much as possible
When stepping out, always wear a broad-brimmed hat and UV-blocking sunglasses
Include Vitamin C, D, E, and Fatty acids in your diet. Citrus fruits, berries, broccoli, bell peppers, and leafy greens, Fatty fish, Milk, cheese, almonds, peanuts, all help in lowering the risk of skin cancer
Use broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher every day. For extended outdoor activity, use a water-resistant, broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher
Examine your skin head-to-toe every month
See your physician every year for a professional skin exam
Keep newborns out of the sun - Sunscreens should be used on babies over the age of six months
