It's generally not recommended to eat mouldy food as it can be harmful to your health. However, some foods can be salvaged if the mould is limited to a small area.

Hard cheeses

You can cut off the mouldy part plus an extra inch and still consume the rest.

Firm fruits & vegetables

Mold can be cut away from items like carrots, bell peppers, and cabbage.

Hard salami or dry-cured hams

Surface mould can be scrubbed off before consumption.

Bread

You can trim the mouldy edges on firm bread, but it's best to discard if it's a soft or moist type.

Fermented foods

Mold is part of the fermentation process for foods like sauerkraut and miso, so a thin layer on the surface is usually safe to scrape off.

Always exercise caution and use your best judgement. When in doubt, it's safer to discard mouldy food.
