As the biggest names of the music world gathered in Los Angeles to celebrate Grammy Awards 2024, we got to see a lot of love shared on the stage as new artists flourished and the iconic names continued to reign. From Taylor Swift making record with fourth Record of the Year win to Billy Joel, Joni Mitchell, Dua Lipa and others take over the stage with their electrifying performances, lots happened.
The Midnights creator won her fourth Album of the Year for the album, the most ever by any artist. She also won Best Pop Vocal Album, totalling 14 Grammys so far. As she accepted her awards, she announced that she is ready with yet another album and it’s called The Tortured Poets Department, which will release on April 19.
Ustad Zakir Hussain made India proud as he bagged three Grammys. The revered tabla player and music composer picked up Best Global Music Performance Grammy for Pashto. He was also part of the Jazz group Shakti that won The Best Global Music Album award for its latest album This Moment. He also won in the category of Best Contemporary Instrumental Album.
Almost all of the televised awards were won by women, including Best Pop Solo Performance and Record of the Year by Miley Cyrus, Song of the Year by Billie Eilish, Best R&B Song by SZA, Best Música Urbana Album by Karol G, Best New Artist by Victoria Monét and Best Country Album by Lainey Wilson.
Jay-Z was honoured with Global Impact Award at this year’s Grammys. During his speech, he blasted Grammys for snubbing wife and singer Beyonce. He pointed out that she’s never won Album of the Year even though she has 32 Grammys to her credit. Jay-Z received the award with daughter Blue Ivy.
Some of the best things of the night was a first-ever Grammy performance by 80-year-old Joni Mitchell, the first single in 17 years from Billy Joel and a moving duet of Fast Car by Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs. Also, a surprise appearance from Celine Dion, who has been missing from public life because of her struggle with stiff person syndrome.
