Style Evolution of BTS Over the Years

Debut hip-hop style, 2013

BTS made their public debut at the Ilchi Art Hall in Seoul, South Korea. The Bangtan  Boyband was inspired by the early hip-hop style and were seen wearing  baggy shorts, football socks with layered long sleeves and half sleeves T shirts.

 Punk rock, 2014

At the Lotte Card Art Center in Seoul in February 2014, BTS expanded to a punk rock aesthetic. They were seen wearing all-black leather jackets, T-shirts, and Vans. RM, J-Hope, and Suga also added to the look with skull prints and crosses

Music festival K Con, 2014 

BTS was seen wearing uniform blazers and ties with black chinos at KCON in Los Angeles. All of them had different hairstyles though, from dark pink to blonde slick-back. The youngest artists in KCON line-up made the strongest impression reportedly.

Melon Music Awards, 2015

During their performance at the Melon Music Awards in 2015, BTS was seen wearing leather suits, shorts, chains, and sneakers for the performance of their song "I Need You."

24th Seoul Music Awards in 2015

For the 24th Seoul Music Awards in 2015, BTS was seen wearing classic black suits and ties.

Casual 2017

In 2017 BTS appeared at the American Music Awards. Even though they are the brand ambassadors of Louis Vuitton right now, at that time they were seen wearing jackets by Gucci, some of them custom-made and ripped jeans. BTS became the first K-pop group to perform at the American Music Awards that year.

At The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2018

In 2018 at America’s most favourite talk show, BTS was seen wearing coloruful patterned suits with ties.

Mnet Asian Music Awards, 2019 

This was the first public appearance of BTS where they were not wearing similar outfits.  According to GQ, they wore outfits from Celine, a French luxury brand. Classic blazers, patterned long coats, hats were seen.

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2020

During their performance of “Dynamite” in 2020, BTS was seen wearing a retro aesthetic including coloured button-ups and bellbottoms with funky belts.

Back to roots

At the 2021 American Music Awards BTS paid homage to traditional Korean clothing. They styled grey suits which looked like ‘hanboks’. The suits had a waist tie similar to the way ribbons are tied on hanboks.

Collab with Virgil Abloh, 2021

In July, 2021 BTS modelled for original pieces designed by Virgil Abloh in a spin-off fashion film regarding his fall/winter menswear collection.
