Sir Elton John won his first Emmy Award for Best Variety Special (Live) for Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium on Monday night’s ceremony.
With this feat, the 76-year-old has joined an ultra-exclusive club of artists who have won all four of the major American art awards, i.e. an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony. He is the 19th person ever to achieve an EGOT status.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member has won two Oscars for Best Original Song for “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?” (1994) and “I’m Gonna Love Me Again” (2019).
The British singer and pianist has won a Tony Award for the original score of “Aida” in 2000.
John is also a five-time Grammy Award winner for “That’s What Friends Are For” (1987), “Basque” (1992), “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” (1995), “Candle in the Wind” (1998) and “Aida” (2001).
Other celebs with EGOT status are Mike Nichols, Whoopi Goldberg, Scott Rudin, Robert Lopez, John Legend, Tim Rice, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Jennifer Hudson and Viola Davis among nine others.
